Exciting Opportunities!!
Notre Dame Americorps (the domestic Peace Corps) has positions available in Apopka, FL. Our service year begins September 1, 2007 and goes through July 31, 2008 and applications are being considered now. Here’s what you can look forward to if you decide to apply: In the shadow of Disney World’s Magic Kingdom lies the City of Apopka, FL home to a culturally rich, economically poor, largely immigrant, farm worker population. The Office for Farmworker Ministry, which hosts a team of 20 Notre Dame Americorps members, has been serving this community for over 30 years. Americorps members serve in a variety of educational capacities: tutoring and mentoring in Apopka elementary, middle and high schools, teaching English as a Second Language to adults, teaching in pre-school and after-school programs, working with persons with developmental disabilities. If you are looking for a place to serve in a remarkably generous community, where you work in the midst of cultures different from your own, this could be the place for you! Members serve a minimum of 1,700 hours between September 1 and July 31st and they receive a living stipend of $11,100 for the year (about $800 per month). Additionally, at the successful completion of service, members receive an education award of $4,725. This scholarship can be used to pay for school or to pay off existing school loans. To apply, go to www.ndmva.org Click on JOIN NOW and complete both the National Americorps and the Notre Dame Americorps applications. You can do this on-line or download the applications and complete the paper copy. For more information, call Laura at 407 484-7736, Minerva or Sister Ann at 407 886-5151 |
