It’s been 3 years that all major social media platforms have been sued in several countries for deliberately putting child safety at risk and harming their mental health.

But it seems we are currently reaching a tipping point:

  • Yesterday, Meta was condemned to $375 million for misleading users over child safety.

  • In California, a jury is currently deliberating in a landmark federal trial against Meta and Youtube for generating addiction, that could set a huge precedent.

  • 41 US States took Meta to court in 2023 – the investigation is ongoing.

Only in the US, there are 1,500 pending cases against Meta about teen mental health. TikTok, Snap, etc. have also been taken to court in several jurisdictions. In France, for example, 7 families have sued TikTok last November for leading their children to commit suicide.
